About Frigates Passage

A current-swept channel south of Beqa Lagoon that serves as a highway for large pelagic species. Grey reef sharks, silvertip sharks, and occasionally scalloped hammerheads patrol the deep blue water at 25-35m. During the cooler months (Jun-Sep), encounters with hammerhead schools are possible. Large schools of barracuda, tuna, and trevally hunt in the channel. The strong, sometimes unpredictable currents demand advanced skills and good buoyancy control.
