Russel Islands - Langa Langa Dive Site — Solomon Islands
About Russel Islands - Langa Langa
Langa Langa Reef in the Russell Islands group is a remote offshore site where strong oceanic currents sweep past a series of coral pinnacles, creating conditions that attract large pelagics rarely seen at more sheltered sites. Sailfish have been documented here during the transitional season (May-June), their dorsal fins slicing through baitfish schools in explosive feeding runs. Wahoo, Spanish mackerel, and dog-tooth tuna are regular visitors, and grey reef sharks maintain a constant patrol. The reef structure is rugged volcanic rock covered in whip corals and hydroids, with occasional cleaning stations where large pelagics pause for servicing. Reaching Langa Langa requires a longer boat ride, but the big-animal encounters justify the effort.
