Tulagi - Twin Tunnels Dive Site — Solomon Islands
About Tulagi - Twin Tunnels
The Twin Tunnels at Tulagi are a pair of parallel swim-through caverns cut into the coral reef near the former WWII Japanese naval headquarters. During the war, these natural tunnels were used as submarine pens, and remnants of anti-aircraft gun emplacements can still be found on the reef above. Each tunnel is roughly 20m long, wide enough for comfortable single-file passage, with shafts of natural light filtering through cracks in the ceiling. The interior walls host whip corals, sponges, and sleeping whitetip sharks. Emerging from the tunnels, divers find a healthy reef slope with anemone gardens and abundant reef fish. The combination of natural beauty and wartime history makes this one of the Solomons' most atmospheric dives.
