Marovo Lagoon - Coral Gardens Dive Site — Solomon Islands
About Marovo Lagoon - Coral Gardens
Marovo Lagoon is the world's largest double-barrier-enclosed lagoon and a UNESCO World Heritage tentative site. The coral gardens section offers some of the most biodiverse shallow diving in the Pacific — in just 3-15m of water, hundreds of hard coral species form an intricate underwater landscape of tables, pillars, and branching thickets. The biodiversity is staggering: clownfish in a dozen anemone varieties, leaf scorpionfish, mantis shrimp, and reef octopus all within a single dive. Bumphead parrotfish schools cruise through at dawn, their heavy jaws crunching coral audibly. The calm, warm waters and shallow depths make this perfect for beginners and snorkellers, while the species diversity satisfies the most experienced naturalist.
