Sandfly Passage Dive Site — Solomon Islands
About Sandfly Passage
Sandfly Passage cuts between two of the Florida Islands, creating a natural funnel for powerful tidal currents that attract large pelagic species. During the dry season, scalloped hammerhead sharks aggregate in the deeper sections of the channel, while grey reef sharks and silvertip sharks patrol the shallower reef edges. Dog-tooth tuna blast through baitfish schools, and eagle rays glide along the channel floor. The current can be fierce — this is strictly a drift dive requiring expert timing and a skilled boat crew for pickup. When the conditions are right, Sandfly Passage delivers some of the most heart-pounding big-animal diving in the entire Solomon Islands archipelago.
