Mbili Passage Dive Site — Solomon Islands
About Mbili Passage
Mbili Passage is a current-swept channel between two islands in the Western Province where tidal flows concentrate marine life in spectacular fashion. On the incoming tide, divers drift through the passage at speed, watching grey reef sharks stack up on the current-facing reef edge alongside Napoleon wrasse, eagle rays, and dense schools of surgeonfish. The channel walls are blanketed in soft corals that inflate in the nutrient-rich flow. Timing is critical — the dive must be planned around tidal charts, and the strong currents demand confident buoyancy control and drift diving experience. When conditions align, Mbili delivers one of the most exhilarating drift dives in Melanesia.
