The Iceberg Graveyard near Pléneau Island is where massive tabular icebergs run aground in shallow water, creating an underwater frozen sculpture garden that defies imagination. Divers descend alongside cathedral-sized ice walls that glow in impossible shades of blue — from pale aquamarine near the surface to deep sapphire in the shadows below. The underside of grounded bergs is carved into caves, tunnels, and overhangs by wave action, each one a unique frozen architecture that will never exist again. Antarctic silverfish shelter in the lee of the ice, and curious Weddell seals occasionally investigate the strange bubble-blowing creatures below. This is widely considered one of the most visually spectacular dives on Earth — an ever-changing gallery of frozen art illuminated by the ethereal Antarctic light filtering through the ice.
