About Danco Island
Danco Island is a small, ice-capped island in the Errera Channel that offers some of the most accessible and rewarding diving on the Antarctic Peninsula. The gentle rocky slope descends gradually from 3m to 12m, making it ideal for divers making their first Antarctic immersion. Despite the easy profile, the marine life is abundant: giant sea stars in vivid oranges and purples carpet the rocks, enormous sea urchins graze on algal films, and dense clusters of Antarctic limpets create mosaic patterns on every boulder. Gentoo penguins nest ashore and swim past divers with comical curiosity, occasionally stopping mid-swim to peer at their bubble-blowing visitors. The calm conditions, shallow depth, and rich invertebrate diversity make Danco the perfect 'welcome to Antarctic diving' site.
