Kolombangara - Crocodile Reef Dive Site — Solomon Islands

Kolombangara - Crocodile Reef dive site in Solomon Islands

About Kolombangara - Crocodile Reef

Named after its elongated reef shape, Crocodile Reef off Kolombangara Island is a magnet for large marine life. Schools of bumphead parrotfish — sometimes numbering 50 or more — sweep across the reef at dawn, their distinctive bulbous foreheads unmistakable. Whitetip reef sharks doze in the sand channels during the day, and hawksbill turtles browse on sponges along the reef edge. The coral coverage is excellent, with massive Porites bommies providing structure for clouds of damselfish and wrasse. Night dives here reveal sleeping parrotfish in their mucus cocoons, hunting whitetip sharks, and large Spanish dancer nudibranchs gliding across the reef. A versatile site that rewards both day and night exploration.
