Kavachi Submarine Volcano Dive Site — Solomon Islands
About Kavachi Submarine Volcano
Kavachi is one of the most active submarine volcanoes in the Pacific, erupting regularly since records began. Between eruptions, adventurous divers can descend to the caldera rim at around 20m, where hydrothermal vents release streams of warm, mineral-laden water. The vents support unique chemosynthetic organisms and thermophilic bacteria rarely seen on standard dives. Silky sharks have been documented inside the caldera itself, apparently unfazed by the volcanic activity. This is true expedition diving — conditions are unpredictable, visibility varies with volcanic output, and the dive requires expert-level skills and careful monitoring of seismic activity. When conditions align, it is one of the most extraordinary dives on Earth.
