About South Ari Marine Protected Area

A 25-kilometre protected zone along the southern tip of Ari Atoll, renowned as the world's most reliable place for year-round whale shark encounters. Juvenile whale sharks (4–8m) feed on plankton in the shallow channels between islands and can be approached while snorkelling. Reef mantas, eagle rays, and nurse sharks are also commonly sighted. The area is carefully managed with strict codes of conduct to protect these gentle giants.
