About Ankarea

A deep reef south of Nosy Be renowned for its impressive granite boulder formations draped in vibrant soft corals and enormous gorgonian fans. The boulders create dramatic swim-throughs and overhangs where whitetip reef sharks and nurse sharks rest. In the blue water beyond the reef edge, schools of chevron barracuda and grey reef sharks patrol. Napoleon wrasse are resident and approach divers with curiosity.
