Anau is one of French Polynesia's most reliable manta ray encounters, where reef mantas gather at cleaning stations on the eastern barrier reef of Bora Bora. Eagle rays and grey reef sharks are common companions, and the relatively shallow depth makes this site accessible to intermediate divers. The site is best visited during the May–November dry season when manta activity peaks.
