The Queenfish, most notably represented by the Talang Queenfish (Scomberoides commersonnianus), is an exceptionally sleek and powerful pelagic predator belonging to the jack and trevally family, Carangidae. This fish is instantly recognisable by its elongated, strongly compressed silvery body, which shimmers with metallic blue-green iridescence along the dorsal ridge and gleaming white along the belly. A distinctive visual signature is the prominent row of five to eight dark, plum-coloured oval blotches running along each flank, positioned directly above the lateral line. Its deeply forked caudal fin, pointed snout, and large mouth filled with fine, razor-sharp teeth reflect its status as an agile, pursuit-oriented carnivore. The dorsal fin is uniquely structured, featuring five to seven short, isolated, and venomous spines followed by an elongated soft dorsal fin, while the anal fin mirrors this hydrodynamic design, enabling sudden bursts of electrifying acceleration.

They often form small to large aggregations, actively hunting smaller fish and crustaceans closer to the surface, exhibiting a diurnal activity pattern. Their reproduction involves broadcast spawning, where both sexes release gametes into the water column for external fertilisation. While a precise annual spawning season can vary geographically, it generally occurs during warmer months in tropical and subtropical regions. This species is oviparous, meaning they lay eggs. The eggs are pelagic, developing and hatching in the open water.
