The Creole Wrasse at a glance

The Creole wrasse (Bodianus parrae, synonym Clepticus parrae) is a moderately elongated labrid with a distinct elongate oval shape, slightly thicker than the typical cigar-like profile seen in many other wrasse species. Reaching a maximum length of 0.3 metres (30 cm), males are larger while females remain smaller. Adults possess a crescent-shaped (lunate) tail fin that enables swift acceleration when evading predators, a small oblique protrusible mouth with weak, reduced canine teeth, throat grinding plates, and fused gill membranes beneath the throat.
