About Thunderdome
A fascinating artificial reef with a unique history — originally built as an underwater set for a 1980s French TV game show where contestants freedived to retrieve pearls from mermaids. The show was short-lived and the dome was discarded, creating an artificial reef that has been remodelled by subsequent hurricanes. An interesting debris field on sand attracts schooling grunts, snappers, and colourful reef fish seeking refuge, offering great photo opportunities.
