Why season matters more than you think
Marine encounters are highly seasonal. Hanifaru Bay's mantas only aggregate Aug–Nov. Socorro's humpbacks pass through Jan–Mar. Red Sea oceanic whitetips are reliable May–Sep, then disappear. Booking the wrong month doesn't mean bad diving — it means missing the headline encounter you came for.
Conditions matter too. Galápagos has two distinct seasons: cool/rough Jun–Nov delivers whale sharks but means surface chop; warm/calm Dec–May is gentler but the big animals thin out.

Shoulder-season bargains
Booking the month either side of peak season often saves 20–35% with near-identical diving:
- Maldives: late April / early May (end of dry season, fewer crowds)
- Egypt: November & March (warm enough, off-peak pricing)
- Indonesia: late October & early April (bracket Raja Ampat peak)
- Caribbean: May & November (between hurricane and high season)
