Liveaboard diving FAQ — Can I pay in instalments?

Can I pay in instalments?

Cost & Booking

Yes — most operators take 25–30% deposit at booking and the balance 60–90 days before departure. Blue Rides supports staged payments.

Almost every liveaboard operator in the world uses a standard two-stage payment system: deposit at booking, balance before departure. The exact percentages and dates vary by operator and destination but the structure is consistent.

The standard model

25–30% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking, the remaining 70–75% balance due 60–90 days before departure. For trips booked less than 90 days out, full payment is taken at booking.

Some operators use slightly different splits — 20% deposit / 80% balance, or three-stage payment with an additional 25% midway between booking and departure. Expedition operators (Galápagos, Antarctica) sometimes require 50% deposit upfront because their costs are higher and inventory more constrained.

Blue Rides supports the staged payment model and handles the entire payment timeline on your behalf. When you book through us, you'll see the exact deposit amount, the balance amount, and the balance due date in your booking confirmation. Reminder emails go out 14 days and 7 days before each payment is due.

Payment methods

Bank transfer (SEPA in Europe) is the default and often comes with a $25 discount per booking because it carries no card-processing fees. Credit and debit card (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted via Stripe checkout in most major currencies. American Express is supported on most cards. Apple Pay and Google Pay work for cabin bookings up to most card limits.

Cancellation policy

Tied to the payment schedule. Cancellation more than 90 days before departure usually forfeits only the deposit. Inside 90 days the cancellation fees ramp quickly to 100% of the trip cost in the final 30 days. Travel insurance with trip-cancellation cover is essential and pays for itself the first time you need it.

Currency

Most international operators publish in USD or EUR. Blue Rides displays trip prices in your local currency at the current FX rate; the actual charge is processed in the operator's working currency, so the final amount on your card statement can vary slightly from the displayed amount due to currency conversion.
