About C58 Minesweeper Wreck
The C58 Minesweeper Wreck, also known as Juan de la Barrera Battleship, General Anaya, or USS Harlequin, is a World War II minesweeper intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef. This popular wreck lies at a depth of about 25 to 26 meters, offering opportunities for penetration for experienced divers. The site can experience strong currents, making for a thrilling drift dive, though conditions can vary. Divers are typically dropped slightly upstream to descend quickly and drift towards the wreck. It is a vibrant underwater ecosystem attracting numerous fish and eagle rays seasonally. The C58 provides an impressive experience with its structure and the abundant marine life that has made it home. Schools of fish frequently seek refuge within its hull from predators and currents. While it is one of the most popular wreck dives in the area, it is particularly noted for attracting eagle rays from December to late March, making it a favorite for advanced divers during these months. The dive offers multiple circuits around the wreck, allowing ample time for exploration.

Conditions & Currents
Moderate currents can run here, so plan drift entries and stay close to the group. Dive profiles here run between roughly 25 and 26 metres, so plan your gas and no-decompression limits around the deeper part of the site. It is usually briefed as a dive for advanced divers. It can be dived from a liveaboard or a day boat, depending on where you start the trip. Tide, wind and season all shift the picture from day to day, so the crew's briefing on the boat always overrides any general description.
Why dive C58 Minesweeper Wreck from a liveaboard?
C58 Minesweeper Wreck is one of Mexico's signature dive sites. A liveaboard sleeps you on the water and puts you in the water for three to four guided dives per day, including dawn and night dives that day-boat operators rarely offer. You skip the daily commute back to port and reach quieter, less-crowded sites in the same region on a single trip.
