Working together
for living reefs

Together with The Reef-World Foundation we work to keep coral reefs alive and thriving. Blue Rides supports their conservation work financially, so the reefs we love to dive have a future.

BlueRides financially supports The Reef-World Foundation. As a platform that sends divers to the most beautiful reefs on the planet, we see it as our responsibility to give something back to the ecosystems our industry depends on.

The Reef-World Foundation is a UK-registered charity that has been protecting coral reefs since 1999. Its mission: to make sustainable marine tourism the social norm, so that reefs – and the communities that depend on them – can survive and thrive.

How our partnership makes an impact

From ocean adventures to thriving reefs

A shared love of the ocean becomes practical, positive change.

You explore the ocean

Discover extraordinary reefs and marine life on your next dive adventure.

Every dive trip starts with wonder: colourful reefs, curious turtles, schools of fish in crystal-clear water. But these ecosystems are fragile – a single careless fin kick or anchor can destroy coral that took decades to grow. That is why how we dive matters just as much as where we dive. When you choose operators who follow environmental standards, your adventure actively protects the places you came to see. Your booking is the first step in a chain that keeps reefs alive.

We support Reef-World

Blue Rides financially supports conservation programmes, training and policy work.

For every booking, Blue Rides donates to The Reef-World Foundation – the UK-registered charity behind the Green Fins initiative. Our contribution funds the things that make real change possible: environmental training for dive professionals, support for governments developing sustainable tourism policy, and science-based conservation programmes in more than 80 countries. Reef-World works in partnership with the UN Environment Programme, so every euro goes into a proven, globally coordinated effort. We do this because our business depends on healthy reefs – and because it is simply the right thing to do.

The industry raises its standards

Reef-World helps dive and snorkel operators worldwide adopt environmental best practice.

As the international coordinator of Green Fins, Reef-World brings a strict environmental code of conduct to dive centres, snorkelling centres and liveaboards around the world. Trained assessors visit members regularly, score their environmental performance and agree on concrete, step-by-step improvement plans. Dive professionals complete free online environmental training used by thousands of guides worldwide. The result is measurable: member operators improve their sustainability score by around 20% on average. Step by step, good intentions become daily practice on the boats you travel with.

Together we protect marine life

Less local pressure gives reefs and the communities that depend on them a healthier future.

Coral reefs are home to a quarter of all marine species and support the livelihoods of around half a billion people. When local pressure from tourism is reduced, reefs get the breathing space they need to recover and stay resilient. Healthier reefs mean more fish, better diving and a more secure future for coastal communities. No single diver, operator or booking platform can achieve this alone – but together, the chain works. Your adventure, our support and the industry's daily practice add up to protection that lasts.

What Reef-World actually does

Real change through practical solutions

Sustainable marine tourism

As the global coordinator of Green Fins, Reef-World helps dive and snorkel operators worldwide adopt environmental standards and measurably reduce their impact on reefs.

As the international coordinator of the Green Fins initiative, Reef-World brings the only globally recognised environmental standard to dive and snorkel tourism. Operators commit to a strict code of conduct covering everything from buoyancy control and anchoring to waste management and wildlife interaction. Trained assessors visit members regularly, score their performance and agree on realistic improvement plans. The programme was developed with the UN Environment Programme and is based on decades of marine science. It turns reef protection into clear, everyday practice on the boats you travel with.

Policy & industry change

The foundation advises governments and the tourism industry, turning environmental best practice into real policy and long-term industry change.

Reef-World works directly with governments and tourism authorities to embed environmental best practice into real policy. The foundation advises on sustainable tourism strategies, helps build national Green Fins programmes and trains local assessors so countries can run the standards themselves. This policy work is what turns individual good behaviour into lasting, industry-wide change. It also means the programmes keep running locally, long after the initial setup. Systemic change, not one-off projects, is the goal.

Global community

Dive centres, snorkelling centres, liveaboards and governments share a commitment to sustainable marine tourism.

More than 1,300 marine tourism businesses work with Reef-World's programmes, across more than 80 countries and all major dive destinations. The community ranges from small local dive centres to large liveaboard fleets – and includes governments and policymakers shaping the rules of the industry. Members share experiences, improvement ideas and success stories, so good practice spreads quickly. Every new member strengthens the global movement for sustainable marine tourism.

Education & science

From online training for dive professionals to citizen science and data-driven conservation – Reef-World connects people meaningfully with the ocean without compromising its future.

Reef-World connects people meaningfully with the ocean without compromising its future. The free Green Fins Dive Guide e-course trains dive professionals in environmentally friendly guiding and is used by thousands of guides worldwide. Citizen science projects and data-driven monitoring help track reef health and measure what actually works. Educational materials – posters, briefing guidelines, best-practice icons – are free to download in many languages, so the message reaches crews and guests right where they dive. Good communication is often the cheapest and most effective conservation tool there is.
