Costa Rica Liveaboards

Costa Rica's Cocos Island is one of the world's premier big-animal diving destinations. Located 550km off the Pacific coast, this uninhabited island can only be reached by liveaboard. Expect massive schools of hammerhead sharks, giant mantas, whale sharks, dolphins, and tiger sharks in an untouched underwater wilderness that Jacques Cousteau called "the most beautiful island in the world." Best Time to Dive Costa Rica

Cocos Island diving is possible year-round, but conditions and marine life encounters vary significantly by season. Water temperatures range from 24°C to 28°C, with the best hammerhead action during the cooler months.

Dry Season (Jan – May)

Calmer seas, better visibility (20-30m). Good hammerhead sightings. More comfortable crossings.

Jan – May

Hammerhead Season (Jun – Nov)

Peak pelagic activity. Massive hammerhead schools, whale sharks, mantas. Stronger currents, lower viz.

Jun – Nov

Transition (May – Jun)

Best of both worlds – improving pelagic activity with still-reasonable sea conditions.

May – Jun
