Cocos Aggressor

About Cocos Aggressor

Cocos Island, a remote outpost off Costa Rica, supports a dynamic pelagic marine ecosystem, explored aboard the 37.8-meter Cocos Aggressor.

Approximately 550 kilometers from Costa Rica's Pacific shore lies Cocos Island, a solitary peak rising from the deep ocean. This UNESCO World Heritage site is the summit of a submerged volcano, its steep walls and pinnacles creating a complex underwater landscape. Its remote position attracts powerful oceanic currents, which bring a constant supply of nutrients from the deep. This upwelling fuels a food web that draws immense schools of fish and, in turn, the large predators that define the region: scalloped hammerheads, Galapagos sharks, silky sharks, and oceanic manta rays. The Cocos Aggressor is engineered specifically for the long-range expeditions required to explore this highly productive marine environment. All diving operations are conducted from dedicated, high-speed tenders, providing rapid and comfortable transfers to the island’s numerous cleaning stations and submerged pinnacles. Back on the mothership, the expansive dive deck is organized for efficiency. Each diver is assigned a personal station with ample gear storage, minimizing congestion before and after each plunge. A multi-level camera table with charging stations and air guns provides a dedicated space for underwater photographers to prepare and maintain their systems. The professional dive team leads all excursions, focusing on safety and maximizing interactions with marine life, and guides are experienced with Cocos Island's dynamic conditions, offering detailed briefings on topography and current patterns. Guest comfort is central to the onboard experience, especially during the 36-hour transit to and from the island. The vessel accommodates a maximum of 22 guests across 11 private staterooms, available in Deluxe, Master, and Suite configurations. Every cabin includes an ensuite bathroom, individual climate control, and sufficient storage for personal belongings. Between dives, guests can relax in the air-conditioned salon and lounge area, which features comfortable seating and an entertainment system. For those preferring open air, the partially covered sundeck offers loungers and seating, providing an excellent vantage point for the dramatic island scenery or the open ocean. The culinary program is designed to keep divers fueled and satisfied throughout the demanding trip. Meals are served in a communal dining area, featuring a mix of international and local Costa Rican flavors prepared by the onboard chef. The menu is varied, with fresh ingredients used to create a new selection each day. Breakfast is cooked to order, followed by buffet-style lunch and dinner service that allows for flexibility around the dive schedule. The galley team can accommodate most special dietary requirements with advance notice. A selection of soft drinks, juices, and local beer and wine is available to complement the meals and for relaxation in the evening. The Cocos Aggressor is a modern, purpose-built vessel launched in 2022. It measures 37.8 meters in length with a wide 8.7-meter beam, a combination that provides significant stability and interior volume. Its robust steel construction is engineered for safe and comfortable navigation across the open ocean, a critical feature for the long crossing to Cocos Island. The hull design and substantial beam work together to reduce roll and ensure a smoother journey during the voyage from the mainland. With a guest capacity limited to 22, the ship maintains an attentive level of service. Generous freshwater production and storage systems support the needs of all guests and diving operations for the duration of the remote expedition. Cocos Aggressor operates year-round 10-night expeditions exclusively to Cocos Island National Park. All trips depart from and return to Puntarenas, Costa Rica, involving a significant open-water crossing at the beginning and end of each charter. The diving conditions vary with the seasons; the dry season (December-May) typically offers calmer seas, while the rainy season (June-November) brings nutrient-rich waters that attract even larger aggregations of marine life. This liveaboard is best suited for experienced divers who are comfortable with deep dives, strong currents, and open-ocean conditions. It is an expedition for those whose primary goal is to witness one of the world's most concentrated gatherings of large pelagic species.
