About Primavera
The Primavera dive site features the remnants of an Italian steamship that sank in 1902 after running aground near the harbor of Berlenga Grande Island. This wreck is extensively broken up, but its remains lie in a relatively sheltered position, making it one of the more accessible sites around Berlenga. The site spans depths from 8 to 24 meters, offering a range of exploration opportunities. The structure, though fragmented, provides an exterior wreck experience. Divers are advised against penetration due to the broken nature of the wreck, emphasizing buoyancy control and preservation of the material. This site has become a vibrant artificial reef, hosting diverse marine life including sea breams, lobsters, octopuses, redfish, and fork-beard. Occasional sightings of sunfish enhance the experience. The water temperature averages around 18°C, with good visibility often reaching 15 meters during summer months. Often chosen when more exposed sites are not accessible, Primavera is typically a boat dive. It is considered an intermediate-level dive, and exploring it with a local guide is recommended.
