About this route

Embark on a classic Southern Red Sea adventure exploring the remote and legendary reefs of St. John's, departing from Port Ghalib. This itinerary is packed with diverse underwater landscapes, from the intricate cave systems and swim-throughs of St. John's to the dramatic drop-offs of Habili Ali, famous for attracting large pelagic species. The journey also includes the vibrant coral gardens of Fury Shoals and a chance to snorkel with spinner dolphins at Sataya Reef. Expect encounters with reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, and possibly even oceanic whitetips or hammerheads in the blue. The trip is suitable for Open Water divers with at least 20 logged dives, with guided supervision available for those with less experience.

Day-by-day plan

  1. Day 1: Embarkation in Port Ghalib

    Port Ghalib, Red Sea

    Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by a representative and transferred to the boat in the Port Ghalib marina. Once onboard, you can check into your cabin, get acquainted with the vessel, and settle in for the start of your Red Sea diving safari.

  2. Day 2: Check Dives & Southbound Transit

    Marsa Alam Coast, Red Sea

    The day begins with a comprehensive briefing on the week's itinerary and boat safety procedures. After a short sail, you'll perform a check-dive on a local reef. Following lunch, a second dive is made at a site like Gota Sharm before the boat begins the overnight journey south towards the St. John's reef system, crossing the Tropic of Cancer en route.

  3. Day 3: Saint John's Reefs Exploration

    Saint John's, Southern Red Sea

    You arrive at the vast St. John's reef system at dawn. This remote area offers a huge variety of topographies and world-class diving. Throughout the day, you will complete three dives on sites chosen by your guide based on the day's conditions, exploring vibrant coral gardens and walls teeming with life. The vessel will moor in a sheltered spot for a peaceful night.

  4. Day 4: Saint John's — Habili Ali & Gafaar

    Saint John's, Southern Red Sea

    Another full day is dedicated to exploring the highlights of St. John's. The plan may include dives at renowned sites like Habili Ali and Habili Gafaar, which are submerged reefs with deep drop-offs falling into the blue. These sites are magnets for pelagic life, so keep an eye out for sharks, large tuna, and the occasional visiting manta ray or hammerhead.

  5. Day 5: St. John's Caves & Fury Shoals

    St. John's & Fury Shoals, Southern Red Sea

    After a final morning dive at St. John's, often at the legendary cave system of Um Kararim, the boat heads north to Fury Shoals. The destination is Sataya, also known as Dolphin House, where you may have the chance to snorkel with a resident pod of spinner dolphins. A dusk or night dive on the reef concludes the day's underwater activities, with the boat anchoring at Sataya for the night.

  6. Day 6: Fury Shoals Diving & Northbound Transit

    Fury Shoals, Southern Red Sea

    If missed the day before, the morning offers another opportunity to snorkel with dolphins. This is followed by two dives on the stunning and varied reefs of Fury Shoals, known for their pristine coral gardens. After lunch, the boat begins a five-hour sail north to Sheleneyat, where a third dive is planned for dusk or after dark. In the evening, the crew hosts a special Egyptian-themed event.

  7. Day 7: Final Dives on the Marsa Alam Coast

    Marsa Alam, Red Sea

    The boat makes a short morning sail to the first dive site of the day. After breakfast, you'll cruise north for about two hours to the Marsa Alam area for the final dive of the trip, potentially at a site like Marsa Mubarak, famous for its resident dugongs and turtles. Afterwards, you can rinse your gear during the final 30-minute journey back to Port Ghalib, arriving around 2:00 PM and enjoying a final afternoon at leisure.

  8. Day 8: Disembarkation in Port Ghalib

    Port Ghalib, Red Sea

    Enjoy a final breakfast on board before disembarking. You will then be transferred to the airport for your journey home or to a local hotel, taking with you memories of the incredible diving in Egypt's Southern Red Sea.
