When should I book a liveaboard?

6–12 months ahead for peak season at popular destinations. 2–4 months for shoulder season. Last-minute deals exist 4–8 weeks out.

The right booking window depends on destination, season, and how flexible you are about cabin type and dates.

12–18 months ahead. Premium and expedition trips with limited inventory: Galápagos, Cocos, Socorro, Raja Ampat in October-November, Bahamas tiger sharks in December-February, Antarctica. The best operators sell out a year in advance, especially for school holidays and Christmas weeks. If you have inflexible dates and a specific cabin in mind, book early.

6–12 months ahead. Mainstream peak-season trips: Maldives December–February, Red Sea offshore (Brothers, Daedalus) in spring and autumn, Indonesia Raja Ampat year-round, Galápagos shoulder months. You'll have full choice of cabins and operators.

3–6 months ahead. Maldives shoulder season, Egyptian northern routes year-round, Caribbean except Christmas, Mexico, Philippines outside Tubbataha season. Reasonable cabin choice, normal pricing.

1–3 months ahead. Standard low-season inventory across most destinations. Cabin choice may be limited but pricing is normal.

4–8 weeks ahead — last-minute deals. Operators discount unsold cabins to fill the boat. You can save 20–40% on standard prices but you take whatever cabin is left, on whatever dates the boat is sailing. This works for flexible solo travelers and couples; it doesn't work for groups or peak-season destinations.
