We don't sell insurance directly but strongly recommend specialized dive travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical evacuation, and DAN dive accident coverage.
Blue Rides does not sell insurance directly, but we strongly recommend that every guest book travel insurance before paying their deposit. The right policy costs roughly 4-8% of the trip price and protects against the three biggest financial risks of a liveaboard trip: trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and dive accidents requiring chamber treatment or evacuation.
We recommend three insurance categories: (1) Trip cancellation/interruption insurance — covers your non-refundable trip cost and flights if you have to cancel for medical, family, work or weather reasons. Look for 'cancel for any reason' (CFAR) coverage. (2) International medical insurance — covers hospital, evacuation, and repatriation costs in remote destinations where your home health insurance won't apply. (3) Dive accident insurance — DAN (Divers Alert Network) is the gold standard, costs about $40-100/year, and covers chamber treatment, dive-related medical evacuation, and lost dive gear.
Some operators (especially in the Maldives, Galápagos and Cocos) require proof of dive accident insurance before allowing you to dive. DAN, DiveAssure and PADI Insurance Services are the most widely accepted providers.
For trip cancellation, World Nomads, Allianz, and SafetyWing offer good policies that include diving up to recreational depths. Read the fine print on depth limits — some standard travel policies exclude diving below 30m, which is a problem in destinations like the Brothers, Truk Lagoon and Cocos.
We include direct links to our recommended insurers in your booking confirmation email and our 'Important Information' section on every vessel page.
