About this route

This itinerary covers Raja Ampat Marine Park, featuring pristine reefs, hidden lagoons, and remote dive sites. The vessel Wellenreng travels to secluded locations away from crowded areas. The itinerary includes dives from the pinnacles of Misool to the mangrove-lined reefs of the north. The expedition is designed for exclusivity, featuring drifts over coral gardens, dives with mantas, and visits to remote islands. The itinerary follows a route that is off the beaten path. All dives in Misool are conducted with a maximum of six divers, ensuring a private diving experience in the marine environment.

Day-by-day plan

  1. Day 1: Embarkation in Sorong

    Sorong

    Pickup from Sorong airport, transfer to the harbour and welcome on board. After briefings and gear setup the vessel departs into the Dampier Strait.

  2. Day 2: Dampier Strait

    Dampier Strait

    A check dive at Yenbuba leads into Cape Kri and Manta Sandy — emblematic Raja Ampat sites featuring schools of jacks, sweetlips, reef sharks and resident reef mantas at the cleaning station.

  3. Day 3: Dampier Strait — Blue Magic & Sardine

    Dampier Strait

    Blue Magic, Sardine Reef and Mike's Point combine current-swept pinnacles with sheltered coral gardens. Oceanic and reef mantas, bumphead parrotfish and wobbegongs are regular highlights.

  4. Day 4: Penemu & Fam

    Penemu

    Melissa's Garden, Galaxy and My Reef present pristine hard-coral landscapes. The viewpoint hike at Penemu offers spectacular karst-lagoon photography.

  5. Day 5: Wayag & Northern Waigeo

    Wayag

    Citrus Ridge and Eagle Rock present steep walls and big-fish encounters in remote northern Waigeo. A short hike up Mount Pindito (weather permitting) provides one of Indonesia's most photographed panoramas.

  6. Day 6: Crossing — Kawe & North Raja Ampat

    Kawe

    Black Rock and Eagle's Nest mark the transition northwards. These exposed seamounts attract big schools of barracuda and trevally, with manta sightings common when currents run.

  7. Day 7: Halmahera — Goraici & Widi

    Widi Islands

    The remote Widi atolls offer untouched reefs and dense soft-coral cover. Three dives explore lagoon walls and seamounts populated by snappers, sweetlips and grey reef sharks.

  8. Day 8: Halmahera — Guraici Islands

    Guraici Islands

    The Guraici chain near southern Halmahera is known for vibrant reefs and macro life. Dives explore current-fed coral ridges and a sheltered bay perfect for a night dive.

  9. Day 9: Halmahera — Tidore Volcanic Coast

    Tidore

    Volcanic black-sand slopes around Tidore deliver high-end muck diving with rhinopias, mimic octopus, bobtail squid and frogfish. A reef dive on the western coast provides a colourful counterpoint.

  10. Day 10: Ternate Bay

    Ternate

    Final dives explore Ternate's sheltered reefs at the foot of Mount Gamalama, with critter-rich slopes and a relaxed last reef dive before clearing the dive deck.

  11. Day 11: Disembarkation in Ternate

    Ternate

    After breakfast, guests disembark in Ternate and are transferred to the airport. The 24-hour no-fly window after the last dive should be respected.
