Pearl of Papua

About Pearl of Papua

A 30-meter liveaboard accommodating up to 14 guests, specifically designed for navigating the biodiverse waters of Raja Ampat.

The splintered, jungle-clad islands of West Papua create a labyrinth of channels and sheltered bays, forming the region known as Raja Ampat. Here, the meeting of major ocean currents fuels an explosion of marine life, from vibrant soft corals and dense schools of fish to the largest pelagic animals. The complex underwater topography, shaped by limestone karsts and volcanic geology, provides a habitat for an immense concentration of species. Navigating this rich and intricate environment, the Pearl of Papua is a purpose-built vessel offering dedicated access to the heart of this marine ecosystem, focusing on thorough exploration rather than rapid transit across the archipelago. The diving program is organized for efficiency and access to a wide variety of sites. With three tenders available, small groups of divers can be transported to different locations simultaneously, from action-packed current-swept points to sheltered bays ideal for macro photography. The dive deck, benefiting from the vessel’s 7.5-meter beam, provides ample room for gearing up and post-dive routines. Individual storage stations keep equipment organized. For underwater photographers, a dedicated camera table and rinse tanks are available to service equipment. Dives are led by experienced local guides whose knowledge is critical for locating rare critters and navigating the region's dynamic conditions. Nitrox is also available for certified divers looking to extend their bottom time. Life aboard is designed around comfort and community for a small group of 14 guests. Seven private cabins, including Seaview Suites, a Manta Suite, and Deluxe or Standard options, each contain an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning, providing a quiet space to rest after a full day of diving. Social life centers around the vessel’s shared spaces. An indoor, air-conditioned lounge offers a cool retreat for reviewing photos or reading. Outside, a shaded deck area allows for open-air dining and socializing, while the upper sundeck is the perfect spot to enjoy the equatorial sun and the dramatic island scenery between water activities. The onboard chef prepares a varied menu that combines Indonesian flavors with familiar international dishes. Meals are typically served buffet-style, offering a wide selection to suit different tastes and appetites. The galley staff is prepared to accommodate a range of dietary needs and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets, provided that notice is given in advance. Between meals, a selection of snacks is always available, along with complimentary coffee, tea, and drinking water to ensure guests remain hydrated throughout the day. Built in 2010, the Pearl of Papua is a 30-meter traditional Indonesian motor sailor. Its construction provides a stable and comfortable platform for multi-day dive journeys. Powered by a reliable Mitsubishi 200HP engine, the vessel maintains a cruising speed of 6 knots, allowing for fuel-efficient and relaxed travel between dive sites. The combination of its solid build and wide beam contributes to its stability, offering a comfortable ride during crossings. With capacity for just 14 guests, the atmosphere remains intimate and uncrowded, ensuring personalized attention from the crew and plenty of space for everyone aboard. This liveaboard operates year-round, running comprehensive itineraries that explore the distinct sub-regions of Raja Ampat, including the fish-filled channels of the Dampier Strait and the dramatic soft coral gardens of Misool. Trips typically depart from and return to the port of Sorong, timed to coincide with the area's best diving conditions from October through April. The Pearl of Papua is particularly well-suited for passionate divers and underwater photographers who value a small-group experience and prioritize dive time and marine encounters. It offers an authentic and focused platform for those wishing to immerse themselves completely in one of the world's most significant marine environments.
