이집트 홍해 연안은 사막과 깊은 바다가 만나는 뚜렷한 경계선을 그립니다. 대륙의 균열로 형성된 이 좁은 바다는 독특한 수문학적 특징을 자랑합니다. 강수량이 거의 없고 강이 유입되지 않아 염도가 높고 투명도가 매우 뛰어납니다. 이러한 조건은 심해에서 솟아오른 피너클과 깊은 월(wall) 지형과 더불어, 푸른 바다로 떨어지는 광대한 연안 산호초의 성장을 돕습니다. 해양 생태계는 생생한 경산호와 연산호, 수많은 고유 어종, 그리고 대형 원양 동물을 끌어들이는 강한 조류가 어우러져 있습니다.
