About Honduras

Caribbean coral reefs, dramatic walls, and legendary whale shark encounters off the Bay Islands

Honduras is home to the Bay Islands—Roatán, Utila, and Guanaja—sitting along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest reef system on Earth. These islands offer some of the Caribbean's best value diving with world-class encounters. Utila has earned legendary status as one of the most reliable places on the planet to encounter whale sharks, with sightings possible year-round and peaking from March to May and September to December. The island's relaxed backpacker vibe and affordable dive shops make it a magnet for new divers. Roatán offers more developed infrastructure with stunning wall dives dropping from shallow coral gardens into deep blue. The reef is remarkably healthy, with enormous barrel sponges, dense elkhorn coral formations, and an abundance of marine life from seahorses to eagle rays. Guanaja, the least developed of the three, rewards adventurous divers with pristine, uncrowded dive sites and pine-forested hills above water. Together, the Bay Islands deliver Caribbean diving at its finest—warm water, excellent visibility, and biodiversity rivaling destinations costing twice as much.
