Guests will be transferred from the airport or local hotels to the vessel. Check-in is scheduled before 3 PM, followed by a meet and greet with the crew and a welcome briefing. A check dive is planned for the afternoon to acclimate to the local conditions.
Today focuses on the Maratua region, celebrated for its exceptional big fish action. Divers can anticipate encountering large schools of barracudas and trevallies, along with various shark species like thresher sharks. The area is known for its intense pelagic activity and vibrant reef systems, offering dynamic dive experiences.
The day's highlight is Kakaban, home to a stunning jellyfish lake fringed by mangrove forests. Underwater, the region features drop-offs and wall dives, where divers often encounter large schools of trevallies, grey reef sharks, and blacktip sharks. The unique non-stinging jellyfish lake provides a memorable topside experience, while the surrounding reefs offer diverse marine encounters.
Sangalaki is a renowned destination for large aggregations of Manta Rays, which frequent its surrounding colorful reefs. The area is also a known breeding ground, and occasionally, whale sharks can be spotted here. Divers can expect vibrant coral landscapes and significant pelagic activity, making for spectacular underwater photography opportunities.
Derawan island is known as a significant nesting site for rare and endangered green turtles and hawksbill turtles. The underwater terrain supports over 460 different species of corals, ranking second globally for Raja Ampat's coral diversity. This area is a biodiversity hotspot, offering varied dive experiences amidst pristine reef systems and abundant marine life, from tiny pygmy seahorses to giant manta rays.
Today features a visit to Kalimantan's Whale Shark Point, where groups of whale sharks have recently been observed. These gentle giants are often encountered around fishing platforms, attracted by baitfish. This unique interaction offers an unforgettable experience for divers, combining the thrill of swimming with whale sharks with muck diving opportunities for smaller critter sightings.
After breakfast, guests will check out before 12 PM. Free transportation will be provided to the airport or local hotels. Divers are recommended to wait for 24 hours after their last dive before flying.
