About this route

This diving cruise explores the Central Atolls of the Maldives, visiting key regions like Ari Atoll, Male Atoll, Rasdhoo Atoll, and Vaavu Atoll. The trip is designed to showcase the rich biodiversity of the area, offering encounters with manta rays, various shark species, and large schools of fish. The route covers famous channels, thilas, and cleaning stations, subject to weather and local conditions.

Day-by-day plan

  1. Day 1: Arrival and Embarkation

Guests will be met at the airport by the crew and transferred to the ship. Upon arrival, enjoy a warm welcome and briefing, followed by cabin assignments and a ship orientation before departure.

  2. Day 2: Diving Adventure

Each day offers 2-3 exciting dives, with night dives available when conditions permit. Exploring the central atolls often means encountering vibrant thilas (underwater pinnacles) and kandus (channels). These areas are renowned for strong currents attracting large pelagics like grey reef sharks, eagle rays, and schooling snappers.

  3. Day 3: Diving Adventure

Each day offers 2-3 exciting dives, with night dives available when conditions permit. Dive sites in this region typically feature diverse coral gardens along reef walls and overhangs. Expect to see a rich variety of smaller reef fish, occasional turtles, and impressive soft coral growth in sheltered areas.

  4. Day 4: Diving Adventure

Each day offers 2-3 exciting dives, with night dives available when conditions permit. As the liveaboard continues, the diving may focus on channel dives or thilas, which are magnets for marine life due to strong currents. These sites offer excellent opportunities to observe reef sharks, manta rays (seasonally), and a multitude of colorful reef fish.

  5. Day 5: Diving Adventure

Each day offers 2-3 exciting dives, with night dives available when conditions permit. Underwater topography will likely include drift dives along outer atoll reefs or exploring wrecks if available in the itinerary. Drifting over vibrant coral formations can reveal anything from macro critters hiding in crevices to cruising reef sharks.

  6. Day 6: Diving Adventure

Each day offers 2-3 exciting dives, with night dives available when conditions permit. The final full day of diving often revisits some of the best areas or explores new channels known for pelagic encounters. Strong currents in these channels bring nutrients that sustain a thriving ecosystem, making them ideal for spotting sharks and eagle rays.

  7. Day 7: Final Dive

Enjoy one last morning dive before beginning equipment drying and preparation for disembarkation. The last morning dive allows for a final immersion in the Maldivian underwater world, often at a sheltered reef or thila. These sites are perfect for observing diverse coral species, colorful reef fish, and perhaps a final encounter with a turtle or reef shark.

  8. Day 8: Disembarkation

Check-out and transfer to the airport or onward destination. Disembarkation day provides an opportunity to reflect on the incredible marine encounters experienced during the trip. While no diving occurs on this day, the memories of vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life remain.
