Sea Serpent Contessa

About Sea Serpent Contessa

The Sea Serpent Contessa offers access to Egypt's Red Sea, a marine environment shaped by tectonic rifting and characterized by extensive coral formations.

The Egyptian section of the Red Sea is a narrow marine corridor flanked by the Eastern Desert. This proximity of arid land to deep water creates a unique underwater environment where fringing coastal reefs abruptly give way to profound depths. Offshore, isolated reef systems rise from the abyss, acting as magnets for pelagic species. This dynamic topography supports a spectrum of ecosystems, from sheltered northern coral gardens to the current-swept southern walls, famous for encounters with oceanic whitetip and hammerhead sharks. The Sea Serpent Contessa is a purpose-built vessel designed to navigate this diverse seascape, providing divers with comprehensive access to the region's most celebrated sites. Diving activities are organized from a spacious dive deck, built for a full complement of 24 divers. Two powerful tenders, each with a 65HP Yamaha engine, shuttle groups to precise drop-off points on a reef or wreck. This method optimizes dive profiles and minimizes long surface swims. Ample storage is provided for personal gear, alongside rinse tanks for cameras and equipment. All dives are led by experienced local guides whose knowledge of currents and marine life is critical for both safety and finding iconic species. The daily schedule is structured around multiple dives to maximize underwater exploration. Life aboard focuses on comfort between dives. The vessel accommodates 24 guests in twelve air-conditioned cabins, each with a private en-suite bathroom. Guests can choose from Standard Twin cabins on the lower or main decks, and Double Bed cabins on the main deck. For socializing, the main deck features a large, climate-controlled salon and dining area. Outside, multiple decks provide ample space for everyone. The upper sundeck is partially shaded, offering a choice of sun or cover, while other outdoor areas provide quiet corners to read or enjoy the sea views. The culinary experience is a central part of the journey. The onboard chef prepares a varied menu combining international favorites with authentic Egyptian dishes. Meals are served buffet-style in the main dining room, offering a wide selection to satisfy appetites sharpened by a day of diving. The galley can handle special dietary needs like vegetarian or gluten-free with advance notice. Throughout the day, coffee, tea, water, and snacks are readily available. In the evening, the salon's bar serves a selection of soft drinks and local beverages. Built in 2008 and updated with refurbishments in 2014 and 2020, the Sea Serpent Contessa is a modern, 36-meter motor yacht. Her 7.5-meter beam provides a stable footprint on the water. Propulsion is supplied by two 1200 HP Man engines, enabling an 11-knot cruising speed. This power allows for efficient and timely passages between distant dive regions, such as the journey from the mainland to remote offshore marine parks. The vessel's design prioritizes reliability on week-long itineraries, ensuring a dependable platform for exploring the full extent of Egypt's Red Sea. Sea Serpent Contessa operates itineraries covering Egypt's most sought-after diving areas, typically departing from Hurghada or Port Ghalib. Northern routes focus on the wrecks of Abu Nuhas and the SS Thistlegorm, plus the reefs of Ras Mohamed National Park. Southern itineraries venture to the offshore marine parks of the Brothers Islands, Daedalus Reef, and Elphinstone, known for thrilling wall dives and pelagic encounters. These trips run throughout the year, with seasons influencing marine life sightings. This liveaboard is an excellent choice for the dedicated diver wanting a well-run, comfortable platform to access the best of Red Sea diving, from historic wrecks to high-energy drift dives.
