About Grand Discovery
Egypt's Red Sea nurtures a distinct marine ecology, with its coral ecosystems and migratory species; the Grand Discovery facilitates access to its varied dive sites.
Flanked by an arid desert landscape, the Red Sea’s elongated basin holds one of the world’s most resilient and concentrated coral reef ecosystems. Its high salinity and warm temperatures foster the growth of extensive fringing reefs, vertical walls, and offshore pinnacles that attract a significant amount of marine life. This enclosed sea is a corridor for migratory species like oceanic whitetip sharks and dolphins, while also supporting a high number of endemic fish found nowhere else on Earth. Navigating these waters, the Grand Discovery serves as a modern and expansive mobile base, constructed specifically to provide divers with comprehensive access to this region’s most significant underwater sites.
Diving operations are organized for efficiency and comfort. A spacious dive deck provides individual stations for gear setup and storage, minimizing clutter and streamlining preparation. From here, divers are transported to specific drop-off points via two powerful 6.5-meter Zodiacs, ensuring quick access to the best parts of each reef or wreck. The crew assists with all stages of the dive, from gear handling to providing detailed site briefings. Experienced local guides lead all underwater tours, offering their deep knowledge of the currents, topography, and resident marine fauna. For underwater photographers, dedicated rinse tanks and a camera preparation area are available to help manage sensitive equipment.
Life aboard the Grand Discovery is arranged to accommodate both social interaction and private relaxation for its 36 guests. The vessel contains 18 air-conditioned cabins, distributed across multiple decks and available in several configurations, including Panorama Suites and Twin layouts. Every stateroom features its own private en-suite bathroom, providing personal comfort and convenience. For communal time, guests can gather in the large indoor saloon, a climate-controlled space for dining and socializing. Outside, two separate sundecks offer shaded seating and lounge areas, providing ample room for guests to relax in the open air and enjoy the sea views between dives.
The culinary experience is a central part of the daily routine. Aboard the vessel, an expert chef and galley team prepare a varied menu of international and local Egyptian dishes. Meals are typically served in the main saloon, offering a mix of buffet-style selections and plated main courses to suit different preferences. The menu is designed to be fresh and satisfying, providing the energy needed for a full day of diving. Throughout the day, snacks, fruit, water, coffee, and tea are readily available. The kitchen is also prepared to handle specific dietary restrictions or allergies, provided that guests give advance notification before their trip.
Constructed in 2025, the Grand Discovery is a 45-meter motor yacht with a wide 9.5-meter beam, providing a stable and spacious platform for Red Sea voyages. Its steel hull is powered by dual 1150 HP engines, enabling a cruising speed of 13 knots and a top speed of 15 knots. This capability allows the vessel to efficiently cover the significant distances required for comprehensive northern or southern itineraries. With a total capacity for 36 guests and a crew to support them, the ship's modern design incorporates 23 bathrooms and extensive water-making capabilities. While the vessel does not use active stabilizers, its substantial size and hull design offer a comfortable ride during open-water crossings.
The vessel operates year-round, offering a rotating schedule of itineraries that cover the full spectrum of Egyptian diving. Trips to the Northern Red Sea focus on the legendary wreck graveyard of Abu Nuhas and the world-famous SS Thistlegorm, typically departing from Hurghada. Southern itineraries, often starting from Port Ghalib, venture to the remote offshore marine parks of the Brothers Islands, Daedalus Reef, and Elphinstone, areas known for their dramatic walls and frequent pelagic sightings. The Grand Discovery is well-suited for a broad audience, from wreck enthusiasts and photographers to divers seeking encounters with large marine animals. Its high capacity also makes it an excellent choice for dive clubs and larger groups traveling together.
