The Yellow-spotted River Turtle is a freshwater turtle native to the Amazon and Orinoco river basins of South America. It belongs to the side-necked turtles, which fold their necks sideways beneath the shell rather than pulling their heads straight back. Its common name refers to the yellow markings on the head, most conspicuous in young turtles and adult males. Although widespread, it faces pressure from collection of adults and eggs, habitat degradation, and changes to river systems.

Amazon
These wetland birds are recorded on Peruvian Amazon river excursions. Flooded forests, lagoons and tributaries offer different habitats; routes and water levels affect access.
