The common bream is a deep-bodied freshwater fish native to much of Europe and parts of western Asia. It occurs in both the Rhine and Saône river systems, particularly in slower-flowing waters. Adults often develop bronze or brownish flanks, while younger fish are more silvery. By feeding on animals living in bottom sediments, bream connect the riverbed food web with larger predators.
