The common roach is a freshwater fish widespread across much of Europe and parts of western Asia. It belongs to the family Leuciscidae, a group that includes many familiar European river fishes. Roach occur in both the Saône and the Seine, especially in slower-flowing stretches and connected waters. Their silvery flanks and reddish eyes and fins make them recognisable, although they can be confused with related species.

Saone
These birds are recorded in the Saône valley's protected alluvial wetlands. Floodplain meadows and quiet side channels differ from busy riverfronts; sightings depend on the actual route.
