Caissons hyperbares

Un caisson hyperbare est une enceinte sous pression dans laquelle le plongeur respire de l'oxygène pur à pression élevée. C'est le seul traitement efficace de l'accident de décompression et de l'embolie gazeuse artérielle : la distance jusqu'au caisson opérationnel le plus proche fait partie de toute planification sérieuse, surtout en croisière plongée dans des zones isolées. Accident de décompression (DCS)
Des bulles d'azote se forment dans le sang et les tissus après une remontée trop rapide ou un palier de décompression non respecté.

Recompression
Le caisson augmente la pression ambiante pour que les bulles se réduisent et se dissolvent.

Oxygène hyperbare
L'O2 pur à 2–3 bars chasse l'azote et réoxygène les tissus mal irrigués.
4.
Le temps compte
Plus le traitement commence tôt, meilleur est le pronostic — le délai d'évacuation est le facteur critique.
5.
Assurance
Une série de traitements coûte plusieurs milliers de USD. Une assurance accident de plongée (DAN ou équivalent) est obligatoire sur la plupart des bateaux de croisière-plongée.
