Los Arcos, a protected National Marine Park, is a signature dive destination located in Mexico's Banderas Bay, just south of Puerto Vallarta between Mismaloya Beach and Las Gemelas. This iconic site is characterized by striking granite archways and volcanic rock formations that rise dramatically above and below the water, creating a unique underwater landscape. Beneath the surface, divers encounter an intricate network of deep tunnels, caves, and arches, along with rocky slopes, walls, and thriving reef systems. The area is also home to notable features like Devil's Canyon, an impressive underwater cliff extending hundreds of feet. These varied topographies range from average depths of 10-20 meters (33-66 feet) to deeper sections reaching around 30 meters (98 feet), or even up to 39.6 meters (120 feet) in its deepest parts, making it suitable for a wide range of diver experience levels. Los Arcos is teeming with marine life, including green sea turtles, octopus, moray eels, lobsters, and vibrant schools of tropical fish like angelfish, butterflyfish, and pufferfish. Brilliant nudibranchs are also frequently observed on the rocky slopes. Lucky divers may spot eagle rays and even giant Pacific manta rays, particularly during the cooler months when humpback whales can also be seen in the bay. Dive expeditions typically depart by boat from Puerto Vallarta. The site accommodates both beginners, often with a single immersion, and certified divers who can enjoy two tanks.
