Atmosphere House Reef is a renowned dive site located in Dauin, Philippines, directly accessible from the shore. This site is particularly celebrated for its exceptional muck diving opportunities and a vibrant house reef. The topography begins with a gentle slope from the shore, reaching approximately 5 meters deep and largely covered in seagrass, an area where green sea turtles are frequently observed foraging. Beyond this shallow expanse, the slope gradually steepens, extending down to 35 meters, adorned with a mix of coral reefs and sandy patches. The site is a macro lover's paradise, offering an incredible diversity of critters throughout its varied habitats. Divers can explore the natural reef, which hosts a wide array of marine life including blue tangs, trevally, emperors, and blue-spotted stingrays. Heading deeper, three sunken shipping containers, intentionally placed in 2011, create an artificial reef teeming with batfish, scorpionfish, nudibranchs, and juvenile sweetlips. The combination of natural and artificial structures, along with seagrass beds and sandy bottoms, provides a varied underwater landscape that supports both large and small marine species. Barracudas are occasionally seen, especially when currents pick up. Atmosphere House Reef is famous for its critter population, with sightings of hairy shrimp, ghost pipefish, frogfish, mantis shrimp, broadclub cuttlefish, and numerous nudibranchs. Lucky divers might even spot grape-sized flamboyant cuttlefish eggs or jawfish mouth brooding. Night dives here reveal a different world, with mandarin fish performing mating rituals, bobtail squid, and the elusive blue-ringed octopus emerging to explore fluorescing corals. The site offers easy shore entry and mild conditions, making it suitable for a range of dive experiences, though the rich biodiversity rewards keen observation and careful exploration.
