The snowy egret is a small white heron of the Americas, familiar in Florida's shallow wetlands and sheltered coastal margins. Its black legs and bright yellow feet are especially useful field marks. Elegant breeding plumes once made it a major target of the feather trade, contributing to the growth of bird-protection campaigns. Today it benefits from protected nesting sites, but wetland loss, disturbance and altered water levels still affect local feeding and breeding opportunities.

These wetland birds are recorded on Peruvian Amazon river excursions. Flooded forests, lagoons and tributaries offer different habitats; routes and water levels affect access.
