The Canada Goose is a large North American waterfowl recognized by its black head and neck and white cheek patches. It occurs along both the Columbia and Mississippi rivers, using nearby wetlands, islands, fields, and shorelines. Some populations migrate long distances, while others remain in the same region throughout the year. Its adaptability has allowed it to thrive in agricultural landscapes and urban parks as well as natural habitats. Canada Geese are familiar river wildlife, often seen grazing near the water or flying overhead in calling flocks.
