The spot-billed pelican is a large waterbird native to South and Southeast Asia. Its name refers to the dark spots on its upper bill, a useful identification feature in adults. It depends on productive wetlands for feeding and secure trees for nesting. In the Mekong basin, Cambodia's Tonle Sap lake and floodplain provide particularly important habitat. Wetland degradation, disturbance and the loss of nesting trees threaten its populations.

Mekong
Dolphins inhabit northern Cambodian pools towards Laos, outside typical Vietnam-delta sailings. Otters and lesser adjutants are recorded at Prek Toal on Tonlé Sap, requiring a separate lake/wetland excursion. Neither northern pools nor the reserve is automatically included on a Mekong cruise.
