The Painted Stork is a large Asian waterbird named for the delicate pink feathers near its tail. Its range extends from the Indian subcontinent into parts of Southeast Asia. In the Mekong basin, it occurs locally in suitable wetlands, including Cambodia's Tonle Sap floodplain and parts of the lower basin. It depends on shallow, productive waters for feeding and secure trees for colonial nesting. Although globally assessed as Least Concern, it remains vulnerable locally to wetland loss, disturbance and hunting.

Mekong
Dolphins inhabit northern Cambodian pools towards Laos, outside typical Vietnam-delta sailings. Otters and lesser adjutants are recorded at Prek Toal on Tonlé Sap, requiring a separate lake/wetland excursion. Neither northern pools nor the reserve is automatically included on a Mekong cruise.
