The black-capped squirrel monkey is a small, agile primate native to the western and central Amazon basin in Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. It is named for the dark crown that contrasts with its pale face and bright yellow-orange limbs. Highly social and active by day, it travels through forest vegetation in lively groups. Its diet combines fruit with insects and other small animal prey. Although globally assessed as Least Concern, it faces local pressures from forest loss and capture.

These wetland birds are recorded on Peruvian Amazon river excursions. Flooded forests, lagoons and tributaries offer different habitats; routes and water levels affect access.
