This channel is part of the Vattaru Reef, which includes a small islet surrounded by reef, making it a unique topographical feature in the area. While Vaavu Atoll generally boasts many channels known for strong currents and abundant pelagic life, Vattaru Kandu typically experiences moderate currents, usually about 1 to 2 knots, making it gentler than some of the atoll's larger channels.
