Meros, often referred to as El Bajo de los Meros, is the most northerly reef in Cabo Pulmo, with depths ranging from 9 to 18 meters. As an extension of El Bajo, it shares many similar reef characteristics and marine life but is particularly noted for its unique features. This reef bar is distinguished by meandering coral and rock formations, creating an intricate underwater landscape. Divers often encounter a greater number of sea turtles at Meros compared to other sites, making it a prime location for turtle enthusiasts. The site's northerly position makes it a frequent transit point for larger pelagics such as whale sharks and mobula rays, especially during their migratory seasons. Tropical fish are abundant, thriving within the protective coral and rock structures. During the winter months, an added highlight is the possibility of hearing the songs of humpback whales, creating a magical undersea symphony. The site is well-suited for drift diving, allowing divers to cover more ground and observe the diverse ecosystem. The combination of abundant turtles, potential pelagic sightings, and the unique coral formations makes Meros a highly rewarding dive.
