About Seafari Explorer II
Le Seafari Explorer II opère dans l'archipel des Maldives, un navire de 39,9 mètres rénové en 2020.
The Maldivian atolls are not a solid wall of coral, but a broken chain of islands and submerged reefs. This fractured geography forms a complex system of deep-water channels, known locally as kandus. With each tide, these passages funnel ocean water, concentrating nutrients and attracting a high density of marine life. This predictable flow draws large pelagics like sharks and schooling fish, while submerged pinnacles, or thilas, serve as cleaning stations for manta rays. The Seafari Explorer II is a modern platform designed to navigate these dynamic waterways, positioning divers at the center of the action.
Diving operations are run from a dedicated dhoni, a traditional Maldivian boat that serves as the dive platform. This tender transports divers to the optimal entry points, while the mothership remains anchored in a protected location. The main vessel’s dive deck is an organized space for gear setup and storage, with 12L aluminum tanks, weights, and belts provided as standard. All dives are led by an experienced local team familiar with the atolls' seasonal patterns and currents. Night dives are a regular part of the schedule, and for a more tailored experience, private guide services can be arranged.
Onboard life is structured around comfort and relaxation between dives. The vessel accommodates up to 24 guests across 14 private cabins, ensuring an uncrowded atmosphere. These include two cabins designed for solo travelers, six upper-deck cabins, and six lower-deck cabins with flexible double or twin bed configurations. Every stateroom is fully air-conditioned and features a personal television and its own private bathroom complete with a warm water shower. Social spaces include an air-conditioned interior lounge and a separate indoor parlor. The vessel operates without guest-accessible WiFi, allowing for a fully disconnected journey.
The onboard chef prepares a varied menu throughout the trip, ensuring divers are well-fueled for the active schedule. Meals are typically served buffet-style in the main dining area, presenting a mix of international dishes and Maldivian flavors. The culinary team is able to accommodate most special dietary requirements with sufficient advance notification. A selection of snacks, coffee, tea, and water are available for guests throughout the day, providing wholesome, satisfying food that complements the day’s underwater explorations.
Built in 2016 and updated with a full interior refurbishment in 2020, Seafari Explorer II is a contemporary and well-maintained vessel. It measures 39.9 meters in length with an exceptionally wide 10.1-meter beam, a design feature that provides significant interior volume and contributes to onboard comfort. The ship maintains a cruising speed of 10 knots for efficient passage between the scattered atolls. This combination of modern construction and a wide hull provides a stable platform during open-water crossings, making long-range itineraries more comfortable for all guests.
Seafari Explorer II operates various itineraries year-round, shifting its focus to follow seasonal marine life migrations. Classic routes explore the central atolls, targeting well-known channels and cleaning stations for consistent manta ray and shark sightings. For adventurous divers, special extended trips run to the Deep South, charting a course through more remote and less-frequented atolls. Most journeys begin and end in the central region near Malé. With flexible cabins for solo travelers and pairs, plus options for further instruction, this liveaboard is well-suited for intermediate to advanced divers eager to see the Maldives' famous pelagics.
