Mobula Ray

Mobula rays — also known as devil rays — are smaller relatives of the giant manta ray and gather in enormous aggregations of thousands in the Sea of Cortez. The Munkiana species, endemic to the eastern Pacific, is particularly abundant around La Ventana, Cabo Pulmo, and the Espíritu Santo islands. These acrobatic rays are famous for their spectacular leaping displays, launching themselves metres out of the water in coordinated groups.

Sukellusvinkit

Snorkelling is often the best way to experience mobula ray aggregations, as they tend to stay near the surface. Approach schools slowly and avoid splashing. They are skittish but will often circle back. Dawn and dusk offer the best chances for large aggregations. Look up — they frequently leap out of the water around you.
