Mako Shark

The shortfin mako is the fastest shark in the ocean, capable of bursts exceeding 70 km/h, and one of the most hydrodynamic predators ever evolved. With a torpedo-shaped body, large black eyes, and a metallic blue-and-white colouration, makos are the quintessential open-ocean hunter. They are highly prized by sport fishermen and increasingly sought after by adventurous divers looking for pelagic encounters. Their intelligence and agility make every sighting an adrenaline-filled experience.

Mako encounters are usually done on open-water blue-water dives or with attractants from a boat. They are fast and unpredictable — maintain constant eye contact and never turn your back. Their speed means they can appear and disappear in seconds. Cage diving is offered at some locations for added safety.
